Fortnite patch 8.30 adds Reboot Vans, starts build to World Cup

Weeks after first being unearthed in the game’s files, Reboot Vans have finally arrived in Fortnite.

The 8.30 patch has dropped in the game, delivering the awaited addition. Reboot Vans give players the ability to revive teammates in duos and squad play, a big boon to those who actively party up.

In duos and squads, when a player dies they now drop a Reboot Card which can be picked up by teammates within 90 seconds of their death. A player carrying cards can use the Reboot Van to resurrect the dead teammate after a 10-second interaction. A player carrying multiple cards revives all teammates at the same time.

Revived players return with full health, a common pistol, 36 bullets, and 100 wood. Revived players carry no penalties. However, Reboot Vans have a lengthy two-minute cooldown period after use, which makes multiple revivals nearly impossible. Reboot Vans are disabled in solo play and certain limited time game modes.

The Reboot Van draws clear inspiration from Apex Legends, which allows players to bring back teammates at Respawn Beacons through nearly identical means.

While Fortnite patches often include sweeping changes to the game, 8.30 adds very little past the addition of Reboot Vans. The only other notable gameplay tweaks were a two-point nerf in the damage of the Infantry Rifle and a visual change to the Poison Dart trap.

That said, the Reboot Vans come packaged alongside the Buccaneer’s Bounty event. Buccaneer’s Bounty will include a rotating set of limited time game modes that include a separate set of daily challenges. These challenges can be completed for in-game rewards, similar to standard challenges. The event begins April 10.

In addition to the obvious changes, a number of other backend fixes were also made. These include UI tweaks and bug fixes, but 8.30 also starts laying the infrastructure for the Fortnite World Cup.

The much maligned changes to Fortnite’s screen resolution settings were implemented, which removes the vertical field of view advantage conferred by 4:3 resolutions. The ability to download game replays for top performers has also been added. This is initially going to be exclusive to PC, but the functionality will be added to other platforms “in the near future.” It also sets everything up for the first week of solos qualifiers, which will begin on April 13.
