Fortnite patch 10.20 nerfs BRUTE, introduces Shield Bubble
Fortnite patch 10.20 is live with the Fortnite X Mayhem event, a new shield item, further changes to the BRUTE mech, and more.
Fortnite x Mayhem begins
With Borderlands 3 releasing in just a few weeks, Epic Games is hyping up players by making a location near Paradise Palms into a Borderlands-themed rift zone. The Pandora Rift Zone, as the name suggests, is made based on the Borderlands’ Pandora planet. When not in combat for a few seconds, players inside the new Rift Zone will gain a shield.
With the Fortnite x Mayhem event also come themed challenges that, when completed, will reward players with Borderlands-themed cosmetics such as spray paints and weapon wraps. The event also brings The Fortnite Psycho bundle purchasable for 2,000 V-bucks. The Mayhem set featured in it includes a Psycho Bandit outfit, Psycho Buzz Axes pickaxe, and a ClapTrap pet. Players that purchase Borderlands 3 through the Epic Games Store will also get the Psycho bundle.
New Shield Bubble comes to Fortnite
Together with the new patch comes a new defensive item, the Shield Bubble. This rare item can be looted from floor loot, chests, supply drops, and vending machines. It creates a defensive bubble that blocks all projectiles and explosives for 30 seconds, both from the outside and the inside of the bubble. The bubble can be passed through by players, and the way to deactivate it is destroying its 400 HP emitter.
The item will allow for new strategies and surely an advantage in combat. However, players will need to be careful not to damage themselves, as they won’t be able to throw explosives from the inside to outside of the bubble either.
More changes to the BRUTE
Epic already implemented some nerfs to the BRUTE mech last week, decreasing the number of rockets it can fire to six and the fire rate by 56%, increasing its dash cooldown, and more.
In this patch, the mech received balance changes to spawn rates and the maximum number of spawns. Its health was increased to 1250, and the cost of the gunner’s overshield has been lowered. Additionally, to increase awareness of the mech on the map, its icon now stays visible to everyone once it’s boarded.
The patch also includes newly vaulted weapons, the Junk Rift returning, bug fixes, gameplay improvements, and new additions to Creative and Save the World modes.
