Former Uprising star Gamsu signs with Shanghai Dragons
In a late preseason move, the Shanghai Dragons club has signed Young-jin “Gamsu” Noh just days before the start of Overwatch League Season 2.
This addition also comes just a week after the Dragons announced that the team’s main tank Lee “Fearless” Eui-seok would remain in South Korea due to an undisclosed health issue. Although the Dragons said they would use “multiple players” to fill the role, it seems the team has found a different solution.
Gamsu, formerly of Boston Uprising, was a key player for that team during an undefeated stage run last season. Gamsu was also an all-star selection, though his relationship with the Uprising seemed to fray late in the season prior to his departure.
The Dragons have attempted a massive overhaul of the team’s players and staff rosters, releasing the majority of the organization’s former players and replacing the entire coaching staff. The team has changed so drastically that it’s hard to gauge what successes they might have in Season 2. Gamsu won’t have much time to practice with his new team given the late timing of the signing.
DPS player Weida “Diya” Lu, off-tank Kim “Geguri” Se-yeon, and main tank Fearless are the only three original players on the team that remained after the purge. Most of the new team members come from KongDoo Panthera, a fairly successful Korean Overwatch team.
Last year the Dragons had a tough season, closing out at 0-40 just behind the Florida Mayhem. Fans weren’t surprised when such a drastic changes were made almost immediately after the winless season’s conclusion.
Shanghai Dragons will face Hangzhou Spark in the first match of the new season.
