FaZe Clan's coldzera claims olofmeister is retiring from CSGO

FaZe Clan’s in-game leader Marcelo “coldzera” David has revealed that Counter-Strike: Global Offensive veteran Olof “olofmeister” Gustafsson will soon be stepping down from competitive play.

FaZe Clan’s CSGO division has recently been in state of flux. Nikola “NiKo“ Kovac’s departure triggered various roster swaps, which have negatively impacted the team performance. olofmeister recently interrupted an extended break from CSGO to fill in for NiKo, but that was not the part of a proper return for him. In an interview with cybersports.ru coldzera left no doubt that olofmeister is done with FaZe Clan and possibly done with CSGO for good.

“The next step will be to replace olofmeister, who will retire. He doesn’t want to play Counter-Strike anymore,” said coldzera

olofmeister is one of the most credentialed players in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive history. Though his name dates back to the original Counter-Strike, he broke out on the global stage during his time with Fnatic which saw him bag two CSGO major titles at ESL One: Katowice 2015 and ESL One: Cologne 2015. His final few matches may not be as memorable as his past performances, but he’s helped FaZe win a number of notable tournaments since joining in 2017.

olofmeister has previously taken multiple breaks during his CSGO career. However, his 2020 break may be the last one. Given how FaZe Clan has been rumored to be talking with numerous other players, it seems that he’s done with the organization at the very least.

FaZe to replace olofmeister with new IGL

According to coldzera, the team is in dire need of a new captain, a role that has long been an issue with FaZe Clan. NiKo’s exit put FaZe Clan in an awkward spot and forced coldzera to take over the position. The Brazillian player clearly isn’t viewing the change as a long-term affair, and has expressed his desire to play under a skilled leader.

It seems FaZe is rectifying the situation for him. With olofmeister’s probable retirement, FaZe Clan has an empty spot on its roster to plug a new in-game leader into. coldzera has confirmed that next roster swap will see a captain coming in to replace olofmeister for the foreseeable future. The IGL further acknowledged the constant roster swaps but suggested that FaZe may already have its newest addition lined up.

“We’re looking for the captain, of course. I cannot name the candidates. But after this change, we will become more stable and stop resorting to lineup changes so often,” coldzera said.

FaZe is expected to announce the new IGL in March or April. There had been speculations about Finn “karrigan” Andersen rejoining FaZe as his contract with mousesports is set to expire and he has been in talks with a number of teams.
