Cynthia is one of the most powerful trainers in all of Pokemon, which has left the Pokemon community very intrigued by the strong and sassy champion. Known for her passionate pursuit of legendary Pokemon lore, her blonde hair, and her Garchomp, Cynthia has become one of the most popular characters throughout the games and anime. Here’s everything you need to know about the Pokemon League champion of Sinnoh.

How old is Cynthia?

Cynthia is a 33-year-old from Twinleaf Town in the Sinnoh Region. Not much is known about her past but she clearly spent a lot of time with Pokemon since she is now the champion of the Sinnoh region. Her grandmother, Professor Carolina, runs the Pokemon Research Lab in Celestic Town, which further explains her vast knowledge of Pokemon and her desire to learn more about them.

Cynthia in the Pokemon anime series

Cynthia appears in multiple Pokemon anime series, including the main one. More of her personality is on display in the anime series. In the main series, Cynthia is portrayed as independent and up for any challenge.

Despite her initially hard exterior, trainers that get to know Cynthia are able to experience her softer side. Cynthia always wants to help Pokemon trainers bond with their Pokemon. She also helps Ash and his friends stop Team Galactic and Team Rocket throughout the series as well.

Cynthia may be very knowledgeable during battle, but she can become a little less decisive when it comes to choosing her favorite ice cream flavor.

Who is on Cynthia’s Pokemon team?

Cynthia appears in 11 Pokemon games and is a tough challenge in each one due to her insight, skill, and powerful team.

Cynthia has the same team in most games. Her signature team includes:

The last spot is usually given to Togekiss, Milotic, or Roserade depending on the game. She has also used a few other Pokemon, including Eelektross and Braviary in the Unova region, Gastrodon in the Sinnoh region, and Glaceon at the Pokemon World Tournament. This is more Pokemon than most trainers use in their roster, showing just how knowledgable she really is.

Has anyone in Pokemon beaten Cynthia?

With Cynthia being such a strong champion throughout the video game series, manga, and anime, it’s no surprise that Pokemon lore states she has never lost a battle — at least in the anime.

In the show, Cynthia has defeated strong opponents such as the Sinnoh Elite Four, including Aaron, Lucian, and Flint. She has also defeated Iris, Ash’s friend from the Unovan region. She has never fought against Galarian champion Leon so it’s still a mystery who would win.

How to beat Cynthia in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

Beating Cynthia is unsurprisingly a challenge in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, but it can be done with the right strategy.

Since two of Cynthia’s Pokemon are weak to fairy attacks and three to ice types, it makes sense to bring in Pokemon with strong fairy and ice attacks. A Pokemon that knows the move Freeze Dry is almost a must-have, making Glalie a popular choice in BDSP.

A second strategy to keep in mind is using Pokemon that can burn opponents. Lucario and Garchomp’s attack stats will be cut in half if burned, making this a great way to overpower Cynthia’s Pokemon squad. Gengar, Gallade, and Rapidash can outspeed Cynthia’s Pokemon, ensuring the burn status effect is extra impactful.
