One of Europe’s most enduring tier-two organizations is no more.

According to Vie.gg, Epsilon Esports is set to shut down after more than ten years in the scene. The report states the move stems from an inability to keep up with growing competition and costs. Epsilon has not made a statement on the matter.

Founded in 2008, the Belgium-based esports organization has competed in a number of different titles ranging from Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Call of Duty, to Team Fortress and SMITE. They close with a mixed legacy.

Throughout its history, Epsilon has enjoyed solid competitive success in a variety of titles with teams from all over Europe. This includes a strong performance at the 2013 Call of Duty Championship with an Irish lineup, winning the 2016 SMITE World Championship with a predominantly Swedish roster, and hosting some of the top names of both Swedish and French Counter-Strike.

While it has long been solid in competition, there have been some public struggles outside the games.

The greatest example of this came in 2016 when Epsilon’s reputation was dragged down after their Spanish CSGO roster publicly cut ties with the organization The players alleged they were owed money by the team and weren’t provided with boot camps, proper equipment, jerseys, or even a server to practice on. They later publicly recanted their statement, but left the organization nonetheless.

Big moments stopped coming for Epsilon in 2017. Their SMITE team departed shortly after winning the World Championship, their Call of Duty team disbanded in 2018 following a shaky season, and other lineups failed to reach the highest levels of their games. Epsilon’s CSGO team in particular has been in constant turmoil due to frequent departures from their roster.

Epsilon released its CSGO division in July and had just a small stable of influencers and pro players left when the report surfaced. The organization has not yet publicly announced the news and the future of the remaining talent is unclear.
