Dr Disrespect to get a new animated television series
Dr Disrespect to get a new animated television series
Twitch streamer Guy “Dr Disrespect” Beahm IV is getting a television series based on his streaming persona.
With over 3.8 million followers and 100 million views on Twitch, Dr Disrespect can now add a narrative scripted television series based on his edgy sharpshooting character. The deal with The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman’s multi-platform company Skybound Entertainment and is the first of its kind for a Twitch personality.
“There are lots of incredibly talented streamers, but there’s something special about what Guy has done in creating this character,” Skybound CEO David Alpert said of Dr Disrespect.
For that reason, they felt that the persona had the potential for a “unique world” to revolve around it.
Dr Disrespect’s new animated television show in the works
Dr Disrespect opened up about the project with
The Hollywood Reporter, stating that they are still in the early stages of the animated show’s creating direction and discussion.
While the show is still in its very early stages of production, Skybound revealed that the show will revolve around Dr Disrespect’s journey to “becoming the doctor.” Basically, the backstory of Dr Disrespect’s celebrated and larger than life persona.
“You can’t fully explore that it in the stream itself, but getting inside that narrative is what got us excited about working with [Beahm],” said Alpert.
For Dr Disrespect, a major part of the process is ensuring that the show stays accurate to what he’s already created for his Twitch fans. He stated that he wants to make sure “everything stays consistent” and that the show doesn’t “lose the authenticity of the character.”
A brand new direction for Twitch streamers
Dr Disrespect was quick to say he wasn’t a “pioneer” for streamers, but revealed it was a big step for the streaming community. For the Twitch personality, being on televison is an opportunity to “legitimize the world of streaming.”
Alpert seemed to agree with that notion, telling The Hollywood Reporter that “new mediums” are often dismissed when they first appear on the scene. He even compared streaming to rock ‘n’ roll, which was dismissed as pointless noise when it first hit the music scene.
While television is Dr Disrespect’s focus with Skybound at the moment, the personality said there may be some opportunities for comics and games in the future.
