Herschel “Dr Disrespect” Beahm has spent the majority of his recent streams playing Call of Duty: Warzone and Apex Legends and one thing has seemingly frustrated him with the experience. That’s controller aim assist.

Crossplay functionality has allowed gamers on console and PC to compete against one another in free-to-play battle royales but instead of proving if mouse or controller is superior once and for all, it has created a lot of balance issues. Mouse and keyboard players are often said to have an advantage due to their better control and precision, but controller aim assist has possibly made controllers the superior option.

On September 4, Dr Disrespect decided to tweet to his fans about the “huge issue.” The Two Time demanded that developers “prioritize balance between the two inputs” or that he would “break something.”

NICKMERCS comments on Dr Disrespect aim assist rant

Controller player Nicholas “NICKMERCS” Kolcheff has been very outspoken about controllers throughout his streaming career. He notoriously got in arguments with Tyler “Ninja” Blevins about controllers in Fortnite. Now, NICKMERCS has decided to address Dr Disrespect.

“You’re going to get f—— rolled either way, old man,” NICKMERCS said to Dr Disrespect on Twitter.

The majority of gamers didn’t agree with NICKMERCS. While NICKMERCS himself may still be an incredible player without aim assist, gamers felt the majority of controller players would struggle, especially against keyboard and mouse.

Other Apex Legends streamers have also discussed the game’s aim assist. Most have felt something must be done about aim assist, with Chris “sweet” Sexton even saying that overpowered aim assist has ruined the game.

“In the last meta, it was actually good controller players with the R-99 and the Volt shining through over the average controller players, but the Prowler muddles everything. You can be a very mediocre controller player on the Prowler and be very good on it,” sweet said on a recent stream.

HusKerrs, JGOD, and even controller player Snip3down have shared similar views. In pro player, Snip3down said, aim assist gives controller players too much advantage. He even said that most players will decide to switch to controller in the next few seasons.

But former Counter-Strike: Global Offensive player Michael “shroud” Grzesiek wasn’t even sure what could be done. With aim assist, controller players are OP. Without aim assist, controller players are at a huge disadvantage.

So for now, it’s up to Respawn Entertainment to do something about aim assist. Until then, players are going to continue discussing concerns with crossplay in FPS games.
