Diablo 4 is releasing an update that will take back a very unpopular teleportation change that had fans furious.
Seems like Blizzard is listening to Diablo 4 players and doing something about the ongoing complaints. In the 1.1 update, developers changed the teleporter time from three seconds to five seconds — and the gaming community was angry.
In a developer stream, game director Joe Shely explained that this change was initially made to create a bit of a challenge.
He said: “We were worried about a case where you’re in the middle of a high-intensity combat fight or in the middle of a boss fight, and we felt like it was a little too easy to get out of that.”
At the time, the team felt like they “nailed it” but players felt otherwise.
Diablo 4 developers initially felt they “nailed” the teleportation balance by making it take two seconds longer. But after hearing fan feedback, Shely admitted that there were “other ways” they could have solved that issue. This included only increasing it to five seconds during a boss fight.
The slowed-down teleportation nerfed a lot of the most popular builds in the game, leaving fans outraged. Now, Blizzard is looking to roll back the teleportation change and some others that had fans frustrated.
Said Shely: “What players really, accurately, pointed out is that it slows down the core loop of the game in a way that’s not fun, so we’re just changing it back to three seconds.”
This is a huge W for the gaming community, who often feel overlooked and ignored by developers at larger companies. But the developers behind Diablo 4 seem to have taken a lot of the recent complaints into consideration and have even made some quick changes in response to fan concerns.
Diablo 4’s upcoming 1.1.1 update will be coming out on August 8.
