Diablo 4 is under attack! The team behind the game confirmed that Diablo 4 is dealing with a series of DDoS attacks.

Diablo 4 is one of the most popular games at the moment, with millions of players joining the servers daily. Ahead of the game’s release, Blizzard organized multiple server slams. The goal was to test the server’s capabilities before all the players gained access to the game. The results were positive, and the Diablo 4 servers were considered stable.

After the game’s release, Diablo 4 has struggled at times to keep up with the demand. Now we know Blizzard is not entirely to blame for these failures.

“We are currently experiencing a DDoS attack, which may result in high latency and disconnections for some players. We are actively working to mitigate this issue,” shared Blizzard’s Customer Service through Twitter on June 25.

What is a DDoS attack?

A denial-of-service attack, also known as a DDoS attack, is a cyber-attack in which the perpetrator attempts to make a network unavailable to its users. The attackers flood the targeted machine with requests, overloading the system. As a result, the real requests cannot be fulfilled.

These attacks can be performed by competitors, hacker groups, or individuals. DDoS attacks are often used as a distraction while other criminal activity, like data theft, is ongoing. DDoS attacks are not expensive, some can cost as low as $10 USD for an hour.

Is Diablo 4 back online?

On June 25, Blizzard’s Customer Service confirmed the ongoing DDoS attacks they were monitoring ended.

Almost 24 hours after that report, servers seem to be in a stable place. DDoS attacks often take place during the weekend since fewer Blizzard employees are monitoring the servers.

Service is stable for now, but another DDoS attack might be launched during the weekend.
