CSGO gets recreation of Raid, one of Call of Duty's most famous maps
A steam user under the alias “Lava” has remade a popular map from Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
Lava uploaded a work-in-progress version of Black Ops 2’s famous Raid map to the
Steam Workshop
and shared they have been working on the map over the course of six months, with a total of 120 hours now committed to the project. Players might still experience issues on the map, but the developer is devoted to continuing working on its further optimization.
Raid is a multiplayer map featured in Black Ops 2 and Call of Duty Online. It’s also available in Black Ops 4’s Blackout mode as a part of the construction site named Estates, which features Raid as well as the Stronghold map from Black Ops 3. The map was brought back to Black Ops 4 because of its enduring popularity.
In Black Ops 2, an FBI team fight the opposing Mercs on Raid, located in Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles. The map has been a fan favorite ever since it was released with the game in 2012. Thanks to the amateur developer’s wish to play this map in CSGO set, FPS fans can now enjoy this impressive remake with a shiny new coat of paint.
“It was tedious and difficult, but ultimately fun because I got to learn a bunch of things I didn’t know,” Lava said in a post on
Reddit. “I spent the time to make it solely because it was a map I wanted to play in CSGO, and no one had made it yet.”
They also shared that this is just their first custom map, making its development even more impressive.
Although Call of Duty and Counter-Strike have very different playstyles, players are still excited to pit terrorists and counter-terrorist teams against each other on this iconic and nostalgic map. Players that gave feedback through Reddit and Steam were thankful to the developer for bringing back great memories of Black Ops 2’s most beloved competitive map. They also seem to like how the map fits within the CSGO atmosphere.
Maybe Valve will consider pulling inspiration from other games when they next look to bring a new creation to Counter-Strike’s active duty rotation.
