Cache creator reveals final changes to map before big debut

Fans finally got a look at the updated version of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive map Cache at ESL One New York. But that wasn’t the final version of the map.

After receiving some thoughts and critiques from pro players, Cache creator FMPONE took to Twitter to detail some more tweaks to the map that he has in the works.

Many of these changes are fixes to minor visual and technical issues with the map. This includes things like smoothing clipping on certain items, fixing some of the textures in corners, and fixing some boost spots.

There are also some relatively fun changes incoming, with one being a hint that a spray will be added to the B bomb site to commemorate Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev’s legendary play at ESL One Cologne 2016 against Fnatic, where he hit a flying no-scope to set up a memorable clutch for Team Liquid.

Perhaps the most important change is one being made to the map’s colors. Before the show match at ESL One New York, Counter-Strike veteran Joshua “steel” Nissan stated during an interview that the Cache update was too visually bright. FMPONE discussed that particular critique and said that fixes are incoming.

“Pros tend to double stack digital vibrances, this means we need to reduce the current saturation of several textures. This is a relatively easy process,” FMPONE said in a tweet. “I’m not a huge fan of using digital vibrance enhancers, but since most people do it, we can make adjustments.”

Interestingly, FMPONE also noted which pro players recommended which changes, with Olof “olofmeister” Gustafsson, René “cajunb” Borg, and Sami “xseveN” Laasanen all appearing on his list.

Cache update changes and release date finalized

While many were expecting the Cache update to completely turn CSGO upside down, the most obvious changes to the map were actually aesthetic ones. Instead of looking like a generic abandoned military compound like so many other levels, the new Chernobyl theme shows various signs of life both from the past and the present. This includes touches like creeping foliage and leftovers from inhabitants before the region became an irradiated wasteland.

There are also some notable gameplay changes, though.

The A-side bomb site has been heavily overhauled to give the CT side a number of new angles to improve their ability to defend the site and retake it after bomb plants. The B side has been shaken up to give the T side some new boost spots for locking down the area. Mid has a new window in the Z corridor, which should make for some intense sniper battles.

The map is set to hit the Steam Workshop on October 10. It is unclear if it will get any sort of official event or operation release to go alongside it.
