Pokemon Scarlet and Violet introduced a new method to breed Pokemon. Here are some breeding tips for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

In previous games, the breeding of Pokemon was done at the Pokemon Daycare or Nursery. At these locations, trainers dropped their Pokemon for a period of time, and when they returned, they received an egg. In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, the breeding can take place anywhere you are hosting a picnic.

Picnics are the perfect opportunity to bond with your Pokemon and prepare sandwiches. These can be hosted anywhere you want with the limitation that you can only include the Pokemon in your party. You could also invite your friends to join you for the picnic. Keeping in mind these breeding tips can help you in your Pokemon Scarlet and Violet journey.

How to breed Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet

The first step is to pick what Pokemon you want to breed. These Pokemon must be in the same “egg group”, meaning that they must look similar. Fletchling and Rookidee, for example, are both bird-like Pokemon. Steenee and Dolliv are another pairing that shares some resemblance.

The chosen Pokemon must be one male and one female. The only exception to this rule is Ditto, you can use it and a Pokemon of either gender. The Pokemon obtained from this pairing will be the same as the female Pokemon. Another exception happens if Ditto is involved, in that case, the Pokemon takes after its other parent regardless of gender.

Make sure the Pokemon are in your party before starting the picnic. It will take time, but eventually, you will find the egg inside the picnic basket. Add the egg to your party and walk to hatch it.

Each egg has different step requirements before hatching. The requirement can significantly decrease if you include in your party a Pokemon with Steam Engine or Flame Body. Fletchinder, Talonflame, Rolycoly, Carkol, and Coalossal are some of the Pokemon with these abilities.

Eggs can inherit other values from their parents. Individual Values, or IV, is an often ignored value with a high impact on the potential of your Pokemon. It goes from 0, the lowest value, to 31, the highest.

The egg can inherit three IVs out of 12, and there is no way to determine which IVs are passed down. The best option is always to catch a Pokemon with the highest IVs possible. Players who complete the Victory Road storyline will gain access to the IV Checker, a tool necessary to determine what is the best parent possible for your egg.

The best parent possible is the Pokemon caught in Tera Raid Battles levels five, six, and seven. These Pokemon come with high base stats that can only be improved.

There are other traits like Nature and Hidden Abilities. To guarantee your egg gets a specific Nature, give the parent with the Nature you want an Everstone to hold. In the case of Hidden Abilities, these are statistically defined by the mother.

Shiny Pokemon are difficult to breed, even if you are using two shiny Pokemon. The chances of getting a shiny Pokemon from an egg are the same as the chances of finding one in the wild. The same tricks to increase your chances apply.
