Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the biggest PC launches of 2023

Larian Studio’s RPG, Baldur’s Gate 3, is already a top seller on Steam just 24 hours after its release. 

Baldur’s Gate 3 was officially released on August 4, after being available through early access for three years. However, a larger audience has rushed in to try the game, and they love it. Just within 24 hours, Baldur’s Gate 3 has smashed records placed by Resident Evil 4 Remake and Star Wars Jedi Survivor, becoming one of the biggest PC launches of 2023. 

Currently, Baldur’s Gate 3 is the second-biggest PC launch of the year, eclipsed by Hogwarts Legacy, which made a big splash among critics and Potterheads alike. Now, Bladur’s Gate 3 is joining the club with more than 418,991 peak players.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is a Steam top seller

Playtesters already loved the game but the official release brought a sea of new players who wanted a taste of the Dragon and Dungeon-inspired world. It’s not a surprise that the game crashed Steam at one point, as the concurrent player count skyrocketed. Hours after the release, Baldur’s Gate 3 sat on top of Steam’s top-seller list, peaking at 471,897 players

Baldur’s Gate 3 is an easy hit among RPG fans. In Larian’s Forgotten Realms, players get unlimited freedom of choice, at least as free as it gets in a virtual RPG.

“The result is a beautiful, rich universe where you can escape from your daily worries, experience adventure and wonder, and have many many cool and exciting encounters. It’s a place where your identity and choices matter, where surprise lies around every corner, and where your agency is truly rewarded,” game director Swen Vincke says. 

Baldur’s Gate 3 is not only an economic success for Larion, but it’s also drawing positive reviews from the regular base. As of writing, the game enjoys “overwhelmingly positive” reviews from 96% of the players who took it on a spin. While it’s already a chart-topping sensation, Baldur’s Gate 3 may see another spike in popularity when it releases on PS5. 

Baldur’s Gate 3 is proving to be a double whammy for Larion, hitting the jackpot both financially and in the hearts of gamers. As we speak, the game is basking in the glory of “overwhelmingly positive” reviews, with a staggering 96% of players giving it a thumbs-up. Riding high as a chart-topper, Baldur’s Gate 3 is all set to level up in popularity once it releases on PS5.
