The ongoing scan meta in Apex Legends has left players frustrated and Respawn Entertainment is looking at how to change it.

The scan meta has been taking over Apex Legends for quite a while now. On the original roster, Bloodhound was the only legend with the ability to scan for footprints and enemy locations. That changed in Season 10 when Seer was introduced to the battle royale, bringing additional scanning tools with them.

Now, for the past few months, players have seen a handful of legends overpower the rest of the meta. Ash, Bloodhound, Seer, and Valkyrie are seen at much higher rates. It’s been getting a bit old for the player base, who called on developers to do something during a recent AMA on Reddit.

Developers respond to frustrations over Apex Legends scan meta

When the Apex Legends community started to express their frustration with the ongoing scan meta, developer Devan McGuire decided to share some insight on the situation.

“We understand the frustrations around legend abilities that scan and their tactical dominance at higher levels of play. Some of these abilities, however, are core to the play patterns and identities of the legends themselves so it’s not a simple task to address,” McGuire said.

Despite the complexity of the situation, McGuire revealed that developers are “looking into it” by playtesting potential iterations. Before any release or information, however, the team wants to be “comfortable” with the changes without reducing the value of the legends.

“We are actively looking into the frustration that can come from these abilities and finding ways to reduce it without crippling the identity of the Legends who wield them,” he added.
