Baki Hanma season two is confirmed, and it revolves around a new character named Pickle. But who the heck is Pickle?
The Baki franchise is somewhat unique in the way it mixes realism and absolute absurdity. After all, this is a series that took a character based on real-life Olympic hero Aleksandr Karelin and introduced him by having him fight a 50-foot-long anaconda. The character then became wheelchair-bound after a fight with someone that can climb on walls like Spider-Man. In a similar way, Baki Hanma seasons one and two swing wildly between relative sanity and complete lunacy.Â
Season one saw Baki work his way out of the Arizona State Prison after kidnapping the President of the United States. Baki Hanma season two will see him fight a caveman named Pickle that was found frozen in a block of ice for millions of years.
While this might sound ludicrous, fans are in for a trip as the Pickle arc is widely regarded as one of the best in the entire franchise. Here’s what you need to know about Pickle, Baki Hanma’s next big character.

Baki Hanma’s Pickle is an archaic homo sapien that lived among dinosaurs millions of years ago.Â
Though he appears human, he is physically different. On top of being significantly larger than other characters, he has a different skeletal structure with a sternum and spinal column more akin to a quadrupedal mammal. This makes Pickle one of the biggest, strongest, and most durable characters in the entire Baki franchise.
Pickle is approximately eight feet tall.
No exact height is listed for Pickle, but people quip that he is approximately eight feet tall. He is shown to be a fair bit taller than Jack Hanma who was around 7’0” at the time. No weight is given either, but there is speculation that he is around 450 pounds.
Pickle does not fight Yujiro Hanma in the Baki Hanma series, or anywhere else.
While there are actually multiple teases that Pickle and Yujiro were set to fight, they never actually come to blows. It makes sense from a narrative perspective as Pickle was a newly introduced character and the entire point of the Baki Hanma series is a slow burn to the showdown between Baki and Yujiro. Still, Pickle vs. Yujiro is one of the most notable fights that hasn’t actually happened yet.
It’s implied that Pickle may be the start of the Hanma lineage.
Technically, Pickle isn’t really human so it’s hard to say he’s within the Hanma family but there are many similarities to draw between the two. Pickle sometimes uses a fighting stance similar to Yujiro and he has a sort of “powered up” form similar to Baki and Yujiro’s demon back.
Granted, as a proto-human, Pickle and his family would logically be the ancient ancestors of millions of people of all walks of life. There is enough there to make the case that Pickle is an ancestor of Baki and Yujiro Hanma, though.
