All about Mew2King, from the memes to the Melee god

Jason “Mew2King” Zimmerman has become an icon in the Super Smash Bros. community thanks to his storied career as a Melee competitor, his later content creation, and his presence in gaming culture. But how did Mew2King become one of the Melee Gods?

Who is Mew2King?

Mew2King is a Super Smash Bros. Melee player from New Jersey who has won more than 70 tournaments during his prolific career. While most of Mew2King’s career has been spent with Super Smash Bros. Melee, he is also known as one of the greatest Brawl players of all time and has also competed in Smash 4, Ultimate, and Project M at the highest level.

Mew2King was born in 1989 and grew up in Cinnaminson Township, New Jersey. He went to Camden County College for game design and computer science. In 2014, Mew2King moved to Los Angeles with YouTuber Sky Williams, becoming a full-time competitor and content creator.

Mew2King has been diagnosed with Asperger syndrome, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and ADHD. He has also been very open about his ongoing battle with depression and suicidal thoughts. In a “Hot Juans” video with fellow Melee God Juan “Hungrybox” DeBiedma, Mew2King opened up about having a caretaker.

Why is Mew2King known as a Melee God?

Super Smash Bros. Melee has five iconic Melee Gods, including Mew2King. He earned this title by being one of the best Melee players in the history of the game. In 2007, Mew2King was known as the best player in the world, dominating the early Melee competitive scene. In 2013, Mew2King won The Big House 3 followed a series of other events. This time period became known as “The Return of the King.”

Mew2King is considered one of the best Marth players of all time, having won many tournaments with the character and placing in the top eight at big events regularly for over 12 years. He was also one of the best Fox players in the world, as well as a standout player with Mewtwo and Pichu.

In Brawl, Mew2King became one of the best Meta Knight players in the world and also played King Dedede. He then became one of the best Cloud players in North America in Smash 4 as well as one of the best Diddy Kong players before that character was nerfed. In Ultimate, Mew2King became one of the best Bowser players in the United States. In each new edition of the Smash Bros franchise, Mew2King was ready to take on top players.

One of Mew2King’s more recent big runs resulted in a first-place finish at Smash Summit 6 in 2018. Mew2King didn’t lose in bracket stage before defeating Adam “Armada” Lindgren twice during the grand finals. He became the first player besides Armada and Hungrybox to win a Smash Summit event.

Mew2King is currently ranked 10th on the 2019 MPGR and 69th on the Panda Global Rankings 100 despite having stepped away from competitive play. Mew2King has been ranked fifth all-time in Melee, but he feels he is probably higher on the list due to his long competitive history and how he has shaped the game throughout his years of research.

What is Mew2King known for?

In more recent years, Mew2King became popular for his content creation. His videos are often highly technical, showing him testing new boundaries in Smash Bros Melee. This includes character weight, falling speed, attack knockback, and move priority. The Smash community is kept up to date on his discoveries via a forum.

Due to his immense knowledge on these technical aspects of Melee, Mew2King is continued to be a talented player. He is able to use almost every fighter on the roster at a high level, even coming up with revolutionary new ways to use top characters such as Marth and Sheik.

How much does Mew2King make?

Mew2King is thought to be one of the highest-grossing players in Super Smash Bros. history. Over the span of 608 tournaments, Mew2King has managed to take home more than $280,000.

Mew2King used to be sponsored by Echo Fox, meaning he most likely had a paid contract with the organization. Mew2King is a co-founder of Most Valuable Gaming. In 2019, Mew2King was included in the Forbes 30 Under 30 Games list.

What happened to Mew2King?

In 2020, the Smash community was rocked with a multitude of grooming and harassment accusations. One of the accusations was that Mew2King was masturbating during a live stream. This led Mew2King to come out about a few things in order to prove his innocence.

Mew2King opened up about a very sensitive subject after the accusations, explaining how a botched circumcision made it painful for him to attempt to masturbate.

“I was circumcised very badly as an infant to the point where it’s pretty much impossible, or extremely difficult, to feel pleasure, orgasm, or any of that stuff,” Mew2King said at the time.

Mew2King said that this is “90% of the reason” he has suffered from depression. He said there was “no hope” for him at one point.

The Super Smash Bros. community has been very supportive since Mew2King’s admissions. He has continued to say that his time in the Smash scene has been what has helped him to grow and thrive despite the challenges he has faced.
