Still looking for ways to make the most of yoru Amiibo? New Nintendo Switch RPG Xenoblade Chronicles is the latest game to offer Amiibo support.
Different games have taken very different approaches to Amiibo support. In some cases, this can be transformative as they add new characters to RPGs. In other cases, players have voiced frustration at Amiibos being overly impactful or feeling necessary. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 takes a lighter touch to Amiibo support but the rewards for them can still be very helpful in the game. Here’s what players get by using them and the special items that can be acquired by using them.
To use Amiibo in Xenoblade Chronicles 3, follow these steps:
Only three Amiibo can be used during a real-life day. Players can reuse the same Amiibo each day.
Worth noting is that third-party Nintendo Switch controllers don’t typically support Amiibo. Though there are many great third-party Nintendo Switch controllers on the market, Amiibo support is declining across most stakeholders. Players can ultimately still get Nintendo rewards, but only by using official Joy-Cons.
For most Amiibo, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 will reward players with one of 21 different “collectibles sets.”Â
These sets contain a variety of different items, some of which are rare and many of which are helpful in the game. These items can typically be found as rewards for killing enemies, in treasure chests, or on the ground while roaming through the wilderness.
While that may not sound appealing, there are some rare items that can be obtained using Amiibo and it’s very little effort for those who happen to own Amiibo already. There is one special prize though, and more prizes like it may come in the future.
All Amiibo can be used in Xenoblade Chronicles 3, but there is a special reward for those who use the Super Smash Bros. Shulk Amiibo.
Every Amiibo for each title has support in Xenoblade Chronicles 3. Each Amiibo drops for players a set of collectibles, and they can be re-used each real-life day.
At present, there is only one Amiibo related to the Xenoblade Chronicles series in the Shulk Amiibo from Super Smash Bros. Shulk was the main character of Xenoblade Chronicles 1 and was included in the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS releases of Smash Bros. The Shulk Amiibo was released in 2015, was exclusive to Gamestop or EB Games in North America, and was quite rare for a time.
The Monado sword is available to players who use a Shulk Amiibo in Xenoblade Chronicles 3.
Using the Shulk Amiibo gives players a cosmetic item that allows them to transform Swordfighters’ weapons into the Monado used by Shulk in the original game. This can be done right at the start of the game using main character Noah, who starts as a Swordfighter. The Monado can be equipped through the characters menu, selecting their clothing, and choosing an attachment.
Pyra and Mythra Amiibo are likely coming at some point, but Nintendo hasn’t offered any estimate as to when exactly they might release.
Though Amiibo have declined in popularity, they still have their fans and Nintendo is continuing to make new Amiibo for its loyal followers. The company seems to be committed to finishing the roster of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Amiibo and announced two Minecraft Amiibo that are set to drop in September 2022.
Pyra and Mythra are among the characters from Smash Ultimate that haven’t yet been released, and it’s possible that they too will bring special reward to Xenoblade Chronciles 3. The safest assumption is that they would unlock the red and white versions of the Aegis from Xenoblade Chronicles 2, respectively.
