The Super Mario Bros. Movie was a huge success, grossing $734 million in theaters and celebrating Mario’s world with iconic characters and easter eggs. After such a huge premier, will Illumination and Nintendo team up for a second Mario Bros. movie?
At the end of the first film, fans noticed a very promising scene after the credits that hinted that another movie was on the way. The second end credit scene showed a white egg with green spots in Brooklyn, New York. The egg begins to crack, and you can hear the signature “Wahoo,” which indicates a Yoshi being born in the games.
With Yoshi absent for basically the entire film, it seemed like Illumination was hinting that a second movie would include the popular green dinosaur.
Will there be a Mario Bros. Movie 2?

to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, playing the main character, Mario. While it was seen as controversial at first, the Nintendo community has embraced Pratt’s version of Mario. This is definitely a good thing because Pratt is very interested in doing a second Mario movie.
He had this to say about the end credit scene mentioned above: “Listen, there’s like, at the end of the film, there’s a post-credit sequence that gives you a taste of what the sequel could be about. And that gets me very, very excited. But there’s been talk of Luigi’s Mansion. That was a GameCube game. I think that would be great.”
Other actors that voiced characters in The Super Mario Bros. Movie have also expressed interest in appearing in a second film. But will it happen? Illumination CEO Chris MEledandri said: “Our focus right now is entirely on bringing the film out to the audience. At this time, we’re not prepared to talk about what’s coming in the future. […] I definitely wouldn’t rule anything out.”

Right now, there is no official release date for The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2. If the movie does end up happening — which seems likely — Illumination will give a release date.
