Kirby and the Forgotten Land has been a long time coming for fans of the overpowered pink puffball, and luckily it has a confirmed release date.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land was first announced in a Nintendo Direct in September 2021. At that point, the last full Kirby game had come out all the way back in 2018. Kirby Star Allies was the last major Kirby game, followed by free Nintendo Switch releases Super Kirby Clash and Kirby Fighters 2.
At that point, Kirby fans were anxiously anticipating a new mainline game. With Kirby’s 30th anniversary coming in 2022 it seemed even more likely. And while fans were not totally surprised to see a Kirby game in the Nintendo Direct, the game still blew everyone’s minds.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is an entirely new type of Kirby game that has never been done before. Unlike Kirby’s previous platformers, Kirby and the Forgotten Land features semi-open-world style levels that appear to behave similarly to Mario Odyssey. This freedom of movement is a brand new take on Kirby gameplay.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land has Kirby land on a mysterious, abandoned planet that includes a post-apocalyptic city mall. Kirby must rescue Waddle Dees, helping to rebuild a Waddle Dee village that further improves his various abilities, including the entirely new Mouthful Mode.
Here is everything we know about Kirby and the Forgotten Land so far.
