What is Minecraft Hypixel, and how do you play on it?

Minecraft is closing in on its 10-year anniversary and remains one of the most popular games in the world. Among the big reasons for Minecraft’s continued popularity are the Hypixel server and popular content creators such as Technoblade, Dream, and others. 

What was once only considered a single-player game where players could unfold their creativity by building everything from farms to houses is now a competitive game that many thousands play online every day. Specific Minecraft servers have popped off in popularity over the years and Hypixel is one of the absolute biggest. Alongside big content creators on Twitch and YouTube, the Minecraft fever keeps going strong in 2021. 

But what is Hypixel, how do you play on it, and who are some of the big content creators behind it? 

What is Minecraft Hypixel? 

Hypixel is an online Minecraft server created in April 2013. The server is essentially a minigame server where players can join and play a variety of minigames. Hypixel originally started out as a YouTube channel that content around Minecraft adventure maps. More than seven years later, Hypixel is one of the biggest online servers and has popular content creators playing on it regularly. 

Hypixel currently has 20 different minigames that players can choose between, with some of the most popular being SkyWars, Mega Walls, and Build Battle. Besides these minigames, Hypixel has other features such as levels, cosmetics, friends, chatting, and much more that players can engage in. The most dedicated players can even compete to be on the leaderboards, even though this feature is currently under maintenance.    

Who is Technoblade? 

Technoblade is a famous Minecraft YouTuber from North America who makes the majority of his videos while playing on the Hypixel server. He is known for content pieces such as Minecraft Mondays, MC Championship, SMP Earth, and more. With over 7 million subscribers on YouTube and millions of views for some videos, Technoblade is one of the leading content creators within the game.

On YouTube, Technoblade posts gameplay from a variety of Minecraft minigames. His most-viewed video is from the SkyBlock game mode played and recorded on Hypixel. This video has close to 20 million views, proving just how large of an audience Minecraft still has on YouTube. 

Technoblade is also an avid streamer, giving his followers a chance to interact with him on a level that isn’t possible through recorded videos. Alongside other content creators like Dream and TommyInnit, Technoblade has taken his place atop the Minecraft scene in 2021. 

How do you play Minecraft Hypixel?

Getting to play Minecraft Hypixel is very easy and only requires a valid Minecraft account and the game itself downloaded for PC or Mac. Hypixel is an online server that can be joined through the Minecraft client. Note that other Minecraft versions such as Pocket Edition, or console versions, won’t work with the Hypixel server. 

After launching Minecraft, click on the “multiplayer” button in the menu. Here, it’s possible to connect to servers by pressing “add server.” The game will ask you to enter a server address “mc.hypixel.net” and then click “done.” The server will then pop up and be ready to join. When the Hypixel server is added, all you have to do is find the server on the added servers list. 

When entering the server, players will be welcomed in the overall lobby in which it will be possible to join the different minigames. All games will be presented via different NPC’s with the game name and amount of players above it. Now, just take your pick and join one of the many entertaining minigames.  

Is Minecraft Hypixel free? 

For players who already own Minecraft and an account will be able to play Hypixel for free. All it takes is joining the server through the server’s official IP address, “mc.hypixel.net”. After joining the server, it will be free to play together with over 100,000 other online players.
