Baldur’s Gate 3 is full of puzzles and quests that are quite similar to the ones you’ll run into when playing a Dungeons & Dragons campaign. One of those puzzles is the Silent Library puzzle. The game is often not forthcoming with how to solve these puzzles, but it’s luckily very easy once you figure it out.

Baldur’s Gate 3 has a lot of mysterious locations, including an underground chamber called the Gauntlet of Shar. It’s full of many secret quests and challenges, including the Silent Library puzzle. It may seem confusing at first but here’s what we did to solve it on our way to complete Baldur’s Gate 3.

How to solve the Silent Library puzzle

If you want to silence the Nightsong, you have to find a book that’s located in the Silent Library. The book in question is the Teachings of Loss: The Nightsinger.

First, defeat the justiciar duelists you come across. Then you’re free to disarm the trapped bookcases and start searching. You’ll find the book in question in the second bookcase on the right of the entrance.

Grab the book and head to the back of the library. You’ll need to use a lockpick to unlock the grate at this point, which is easy if you brought along Astation as a companion.

Once unlocked, walk up to the pedestal past the grate. Open your inventory and place the Teachings of Loss: The Nightsinger on the pedestal. When you do this, it will trigger the wall behind the pedestal to open, revealing a secret chamber.

Inside this secret chamber is the Spear of Night, which Shadowheart needs for a bigger quest in the Gauntlet of Shar.
