North American League of Legends veteran Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng was very close to retiring from competitive play.

Team SoloMid’s Søren “Bjergsen” Bjerg announced his retirement from pro LoL after playing the MOBA professionally since he was 17 years of age. He stated that he will now become TSM’s head coach. This news shocked fans around the world, including Bjergsen’s teammate Doublelift.

Doublelift admitted on Twitter that he considered retiring for an entire week once he heard the news.

“Soren is one of the best players and people I’ve ever played with. The shoes will be tough to fill,” the ADC said.

On a recent stream, Doublelift opened up about Bjergsen’s retirement a bit more.

“He did it. It’s what he wants. Feels pretty bad of course,” Doublelift said.

The former Team Liquid pro was excited to rejoin TSM and play alongside Bjergsen once again. The roster saw a lot of success in the LCS, but fell short at Worlds 2020. Doublelift is worried about the team “not being the same” without Bjergsen on the roster, something that led him to consider retirement as well.

“But I thought about it and it doesn’t seem right to retire on that note,” Doublelift said.

TSM disappointed LCS fans by not getting a single win while competing at Worlds. Many viewers knew changes were coming to the TSM roster. But despite the historically unfortunate performance, the League of Legends community wasn’t expecting a move this big. Losing Doublelift would have just added to TSM’s uncertainty.

The player free agency window begins November 16, meaning more roster changes will hit the entire scene.
