TSM and G2 players won't be part of the 2020 All-Star event
The voting for 2020 All-Star is open and fans will be disappointed to discover a group of famous players is notably missing from the list.
The players of Team SoloMid opted out of the event and thus are not eligible for 2020 All-Star. This year, the event is taking place completely online with the chosen players from each region playing from their local studios. The three-day event will consist of different events, including the 1v1 tournament.
Why did TSM opt out of All-Stars?
The TSM players, alongside the Team Liquid players, tend to be the most voted for the All-Star Event. Søren “Bjergsen” Bjerg and Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng were a permanent fixture in the All-Star event and this year, they won’t attend.
Back in October, Bjergsen announced his retirement from professional play and his new position as head coach for TSM. Fans hoped he would get one final run before retiring, but it seems like that won’t be the case. Doublelift continues to be under contract with the team but revealed to have considered retirement.
None of the other TSM players explained why they opted out of the event, but it’s not that hard to figure out their reason behind it. TSM had a very poor run in the 2020 World Championship, the team finished with a 0-6 score. With that result, TSM became the first team to qualify as a first seed from a major region and not win a single game.
If that result on its own is not reason enough, TSM is undergoing some serious changes. TSM is looking to replace its star mid laner, and if rumors are true, the team will have more than one new player in 2021. It’s natural for the players to want to take a break now that the season is over given how much change appears to be on the horizon.
Who opted out of the All-Star event from the LEC?
The TSM players are not the only ones missing from the list. The G2 Esports squad also opted out from the event. G2 is rumored to be dealing with its own roster change after the team failed to make the finals at the 2020 World Championship. On Fnatic’s side, both Tim “Nemesis” Lipovšek and Martin “Rekkles” Larsson decided not to take part on 2020 All-Star.
