Nintendo Switch

The Nintendo Switch came out in 2017 and has given Nintendo fans an abundance of games to choose from since then, from classic series to innovative new titles. But a few games have stood out as the best.

Over the past few years, Nintendo fans have enjoyed tons of new games for the Switch that keep them hooked onto the portable console. Some have been more popular than others, however. Here are the most popular Nintendo Switch games of all time.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 43.35 million copies sold

Mario Kart 8 first came out for the Wii U, but it was so popular that it raced over to the Switch as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. The famed kart racing game is bound to sell even more copies in 2022 thanks to the Booster Course DLC, which will introduce 48 new tracks to the game.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons – 37.62 million

Animal Crossing’s newest game was also its most popular to date. Animal Crossing: New Horizons came right at a time when the world needed to connect. People stuck at home could visit each other on virtual islands as well as decorate their own homes and gardens. This relaxing game also featured a cast of villagers all with distinct and entertaining personalities.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – 27.40 million

Meant by Nintendo to be a party game, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has evolved into one of the most popular competitive fighting games in the world. With a roster of around 80 fighters including DLC characters, rows upon rows of maps, and one of the best gaming soundtracks of all time, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has remained an entertaining game whether gamers want to have a casual tournament with their friends or watch top pros compete on the Smash World Tour stage.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – 25.80 million

This open world adventure game is the 19th Legend of Zelda game in the iconic series. Its release made headlines for the Nintendo Switch and fans still can’t get enough of the game’s unique action, beautiful scenery, and survival-style gameplay. Its upcoming sequel is one of the most anticipated titles in gaming today.

Pokemon Sword and Shield – 23.90 million

Pokemon Sword and Shield received mixed reviews from the Pokemon community but still managed to be the highest-selling Pokemon games on the Switch. Released in 2019, Pokemon Sword and Shield takes place in the Galar region and see trainers battling gym leaders on their way to the final fight against Leon, the champion of the region. In Japan, Sword sold way more copies than Shield, and that isn’t too surprising to Pokemon fans.

Super Mario Odyssey

This 3D adventure is a brand new take on the usual Mario games. The 2017 title has become a classic game already thanks to its iconic gameplay and grand cinematic moments. Mario uses a magical hat to power through interesting new kingdoms to take down Bowser, who is trying to force Peach to marry him. It’s not really the most original concept for Mario in terms of its story, but the gameplay is something different for fans as Mario uses his hat to transform into different creatures.

The Nintendo Switch continues to be one of the best-selling consoles on the planet, with nearly 104 million sold through early 2022. As more games continue to be released, such as the upcoming Kirby and the Forgotten Land, and dynamic DLC and updates are offered for classic games, the Nintendo Switch remains relevant for Nintendo fans everywhere.
