The reason why Honkai: Star Rail is not available on some platforms
Honkai: Star Rail is now available for download, and here are all the platforms where you can play it.
Honkai: Star Rail is the newest game by miHoYo, the developer behind Genshin Impact. This free-to-play 3D RPG is the fourth installment in the Honkai series, following the successful Honkai Impact 3rd.
In the game, players assume the role of the Trailblazer, a humanoid that contains a Stellaron, these are seeds of disaster capable of causing massive changes to civilizations. Along the way, you meet a wide cast of characters, some are habitants of the Herta Space Station, and others are crewmembers of the Astral Express.
What platforms is Honkai: Star Rail available on?
Similar to Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail is a gacha game. Games in this genre are primarily developed for mobile devices since it makes it easier for players to spend money, which is the sole purpose of the genre.
Upon release, Honkai: Star Rail is available for Android, iOS, and PC. According to miHoYo, there are plans to port the game to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, the exact date is yet to be released.
Will Honkai: Star Rail be available on Nintendo Switch?
Honkai: Star Rail will not be available on Nintendo Switch. There are games available on this platform with gacha elements, but there isn’t one that could be categorized as “full gacha.”
This decision might respond to multiple reasons, the first one being that Nintendo is a family-friendly brand. When players think of Nintendo, think of games like Super Mario Bros. and Pokemon.
Despite the cute appearance of games like Honkai: Star Rail and Genshin Impact, these are considered games for mature audiences. Gacha games are free-to-play but not free-to-win. The game is designed to entice players to spend money on it. Those who opt out of it and don’t put money into the game will experience slow progress that can become frustrating. It makes sense for Nintendo to want to steer away from these types of games.
