2023 has been an amazing year for video game adaptations. Gran Turismo is the next game to hit the big screen with a movie version premiering in August.
Gran Turismo is one of the most popular racing simulation games available, developed specifically for PlayStation. The movie, starring Stranger Things’ David Harbour, Orlando Bloom, and Archie Madekwe, is the first screen adaptation of the game.
What is the Gran Turismo movie about?
The Gran Turismo film is an upcoming feature presentation based on the true story of Jann Mardenborough, a racing driver competing in the Japanese Super GT for Carlin. In 2011, Mardenborough became the youngest winner of the GT Academy. This competition gave Gran Turismo players the opportunity to become real-life drivers for Nissan. Mardenborough would go on to compete in Formula 3, GP2 Series, and many more.
The movie follows the story of Mardenborough as he goes through GT Academy and all the challenges that come with the transition.

The Gran Turismo movie has a cast that combines big Hollywood stars with up-and-coming talent.
- Archie Madekwe, as Jann Mardenborough, previously seen in Midsommar.
- David Harbour as Jack Salter, Jann’s trainer. Harbour is known for Hellboy, Stranger Things, and Black Widow.
- Orlando Bloom is Danny Moore, a character based on the creator of GT Academy. Bloom is best known for his work in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and his role as Legolas.
- Darren Barnet as Matty Davis, a GT Academy driver. Best known for the Netflix hit show Never Have I Ever.
- Djimon Hounsou as Steve Mardenborough, Jann’s father. A legendary actor that has been part of franchises like Fast and Furious and multiple Marvel projects.
- Geri Halliwell as Lesley Mardenborough, Jann’s mother. Better known as Ginger Spice.
