Teamfight Tactics is getting its first update as a permanent game mode in League of Legends.

Earlier this month, Riot Games announced it is retiring the Twisted Treeline map and will keep Teamfight Tactics available for the foreseeable future. The developers said they would be updating the game on a regular basis and Patch 9.16 shows that they are living up to that promise.

The beta pass returns in Patch 9.16

The beta pass is making a comeback in Patch 9.16. The beta pass 2.0 includes six icons, three map chromas, and four emotes. The pass will run from patch 9.16 to 9.20.

Players can earn up to 9,280 XP points through the beta pass. 6,800 XP points are required to claim every reward. There are six weekly missions with three levels of difficulty. Three missions are available at a time, with a new one taking the spot of a completed mission.

Orb of Enlightenment is also getting reworked in Patch 9.16. Previously, it granted 80 XP points every 24 hours. The new version will grant 70 XP just for logging in and 10 XP for each game played in the day up to five games for a total of 120 XP daily.

Origins traits and system changes in Patch 9.16

Patch 9.16 introduces four new champions from Hextech origins.

Two groups of champions are getting nerfed, Brawler and Sorcerer.

Brawlers are still strong despite the nerf and it’s possible to reach the third breakpoint with Vi as the sixth Brawler.

Lulu is the only Sorcerer to get a nerf in Patch 9.16. Veigar is still a viable pick that can be combined with a variety of champions. The nerf will not affect the presence of Sorcerers in the meta.

Noble, Ninja, and Wild received buffs in Patch 9.16.

Nobles and Wilds remain solid in the early game, but are still a transitional option.

After the drastic changes in Patch 9.15, the developers are reimagining Demons in Patch 9.16.

The change benefits units that can use their ult multiple times in one battle like Varus and Aatrox, as well as units that require mana to transform like Elise.

Significant changes to the matchmaking system of TFT were also implemented in 9.16. The update drastically decreases the probability of playing against the same player or ghost army two or more consecutive times.

Finally, Patch 9.16 will add the URF Overtime Mode to prevent draws between players.

The full patch notes can be found on the official League of Legends website.
