South Korea national team dominated the group stage in the 2022 Asian Games and is advancing to the knockout stage.
South Korea finished day one of the tournament undefeated. The team faced Hong Kong and Kazakhstan in Group A, defeating both of them.
In game one, South Korea started Gen.G’s mid laner Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon in the match against Hong Kong. In the second match of the day, Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok took over for a 17-minute victory over Kazakhstan.
The event is being played on Patch 13.12, six patches behind the one currently live. While South Korea played a standard style, Kazakhstan decided to have fun with it and go for creative compositions. The standouts were Sivir in the mid lane and Sylas as a support. None of these picks added up to much, but perhaps in the hands of the Worlds 2023 contenders, the results may differ.
South Korea advanced to the Knockout Stage, where it is set to face Saudi Arabia. If South Korea wins the match, it will head into the semifinals where it will most likely meet its only real opponent, China. Because of the seeding, both China and South Korea are on the same side of the bracket, meaning that only one can make it to the finals.
Whoever wins will advance to the finals, and the other team is almost guaranteed the bronze medal at the event. On the other side of the bracket, Chinese Taipei is the favorite to make it all the way to the finals. The team, which consists of mostly LPL players, faced South Korea in the pre-evaluations.
If everything goes as predicted, China and South Korea will meet in the semifinals. Based on your location, the best-of-three series will take place on September 27 or September 28. To check the exact time, you can visit the event’s page.
The result of the events could change the lives of the South Korean players. If they earn the gold medal, they will be exempt from mandatory military service.
