SKT takes down Gen.G, extends winning streak in LCK Summer Split
SK Telecom T1 is on a six-game winning streak.
The defending LCK champion started week seven with a decisive victory over Gen.G.
Both squads have similar storylines in the LCK Summer Split, starting the season in forgettable fashion before kicking into gear in time to shoot for a spot in playoffs. In previous weeks, Gen.G defeated Griffin, SandBox Gaming, and Kingzone DragonX but the team couldn’t keep its momentum going versus an SKT that is looking stronger every week.
The LCK is currently playing in Patch 9.14 and bits of the new meta are showing up like Lux’s return to the mid lane. Gen.G also played Sona with Tahm Kench in the bottom lane. SKT opted for a standard composition with comfort picks for every player.
Jungler Kim “Clid” Tae-min kicked the series off with a level three gank and first blood in the mid lane. The early aggression is a new look on the jungler who has returned to form since Rift Rivals 2019.
Gen.G was relentless in the bottom lane and forced SKT into commiting extra resources. In the top lane, Lee “CuVee” Seong-jin took the turret plates while his team repelled SKT’s attacks. Through the mid game, Gen.G had better map control so SKT decided to group and force team fights.
Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok on Neeko flashed over a wall and caught Gen.G with his Pop Blossom. That play allowed SKT to push for the inner turret in the mid lane and regain control over the baron pit. However, those successes saw SKT get overly aggressive which Gen.G was able to turn into a victorious team fight and a baron buff.
Gen.G was in control and pushing for the win. Unfortunately, they were forced to retreat when SKT caught CuVee on his own in the enemy jungle. SKT brute-forced the push and killed the Gen.G players one by one, and kept driving until they reached the nexus.
In game two, the compositions were similar with a surprising change in the top lane as Kim “Khan” Dong-ha locked in his second Fiora of the split.
This time around, SKT changed strategies and applied early pressure. SKT took over the solo lanes, demanding the attention of jungler Han “Peanut” Wang-ho as Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk and Kim “Life” Jeong-min couldn’t counter the SKT duo.
SKT took over the map and once again, Faker on Neeko was the deciding factor. The mid laner was aggressive and the perfect playmaker. SKT only needed one baron buff to push for the win.
Following the loss, Gen.G remains positioned for a spot in the playoffs in fifth place. SKT is in sixth and looking to climb a couple of spots in the coming weeks.
