The 2021 LEC Spring Split playoffs are right around the corner and the first round will conclude with an exciting match between Rogue and MAD Lions.

After a promising regular split from Rogue, the team will enter the playoffs as the second seed and take on MAD Lions in the upper bracket. While Rogue has performed better than MAD to this point, the best-of-five format adds a new layer to this matchup. MAD Lions has shown a deep champion pool and the ability to play different styles. That should make for a banger of a matchup.

With Rogue looking like a real threat to G2 Esports during the regular split, the team will be entering the playoffs as the second-biggest favorite. This is a fairly new position for Rogue, as Fnatic and G2 have fought for the LEC trophies previously. In 2020, Rogue also performed well in the regular split but fell off in the playoffs. To avoid repeating history, Rogue will likely prepare even more for the match against MAD Lions to continue its chances in the upper bracket.

Since the 2020 LEC Summer Split, Rogue has made big improvements by adding top laner Andrei “Odoamne” Pascu and Adrian “Trymbi” Trybus. Odoamne is a European veteran and has been performing up to expectations so far. Fans were more skeptical about Trymbi, but the young Polish support has been phenomenal so far. Together with Steven “Hans Sama” Liv, Rogue has one of the strongest bot lanes in the league.

MAD Lions, on the other hand, has mixed up the playstyle a bit in 2021 and is playing around its new players. Young jungler Javier “Elyoya” Batalla is currently standing out and looking like a great candidate for the rookie of the split award. Elyoya is statistically one of the best in his role and can clearly compete with the absolute best.

It’s likely that MAD Lions will continue to put Elyoya in a carry position after he outperformed G2’s Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski during the last week of the regular split. With Elyoya in form, there is a chance that MAD Lions can get enough leads in the early game to break Rogue’s solid macro apart.

Rogue favored in 2021 LEC Spring playoffs against MAD Lions

By looking at the regular split, it’s clear that Rogue should be favored in this matchup. During the regular split, Rogue won both matches against MAD Lions and acquired four more wins in total. MAD Lions still had some great performances but didn’t show the same consistency that Rogue did. This will be a clear advantage for Rogue, as a best-of-five is all about consistency. MAD Lions will have to bring their A-game to match Rogue but if they do, this could be closer than the bookmakers think.

Prior to the match, a win for Rogue will give an odds of 1.21 while a MAD Lions win gives a high odds 3.9

The match between Rogue and MAD Lions will take place on March 28.
