FaZe Clan has earned the greatest prize in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive with a fantastic performance in the PGL Antwerp Major grand finals.
After almost two weeks of competition, FaZe Clan is the champion of the Antwerp Major. The team’s solid 3-1 run through the Legends Stage ended with playoffs victories over Ninjas in Pyjamas and Team Spirit. The grand finals were marked by an incredible performance from Håvard “rain” Nygaard who earned 52 kills across two maps. This event marks the first major victory in CSGO for FaZe Clan and the first time an international roster has won a CSGO major.
FaZe Clan wins PGL Antwerp Major 2-0 over Natus Vincere
FaZe hit the ground running on Inferno with a dominant pistol round which spiraled into an 8-0 lead. Na’Vi attempted to rally back with two rounds but an AWP clutch from Robin “ropz” Kool shut down the momentum. FaZe earned a solid lead into the second half, where Na’Vi surged back to even up the scoreline.
Riflers Valerii “b1t” Vakhovskyi and Ilya “Perfecto” Zalutskiy performed above expectations to open up both sites. The two squads went tit-for-tat all the way into overtime where FaZe Clan finally took Inferno 19-16 to start the best-of-three series strong.
With the mental edge, FaZe Clan continued its pistol round dominance on Nuke with a flawless victory. Despite some missteps, FaZe quickly took a commanding lead.
rain earned 17 kills in just 11 rounds, making him the clear breadwinner for FaZe’s CT side. Natus Vincere clawed a few more rounds at the end of the half for a 10-5 scoreline favoring FaZe. After yet another pistol round win, FaZe established a slow pace to earn 13 rounds off a shock eco win.
FaZe rode that momentum all the way to a 15-10 scoreline. In the final round, a flurry of frags cemented FaZe as the champion. The squad will take home the major trophy as well as $500,000 in prize money.
