Reading time: 3 min

In October 2024, Pokémon GO trainers will encounter the infamous Ke Ke Ke Team Rocket Grunt, who specializes in Ghost-type Pokémon. Defeating this opponent can be challenging, but with the right strategy and Pokémon lineup, you can take down her team efficiently. In this guide, we’ll explore the best counters to use, focusing on type advantages and the potential rewards for emerging victorious.

Understanding the Ke Ke Ke Grunt’s Team

Misdreavus, Golett, and Alolan Marowak of the Ke Ke Ke Grunt in Pokemon GO

The “Ke Ke Ke Ke” Grunt rotates through a pool of Ghost-type Pokémon, and her lineup changes periodically. In October 2024, players will face a combination of Misdreavus, Drifloon, Golett, Dusclops, Sableye, Froslass, Gengar, and Alolan Marowak. Each of these Pokémon has unique weaknesses, so it’s important to tailor your team for maximum effectiveness.

Since Ghost-types are strong against themselves but weak against Dark-type attacks, it is generally recommended to use Dark-type Pokémon as primary counters. Ghost-type counters can be risky, as they may also take heavy damage from the Grunt’s Ghost-type attacks.

In the first wave, you may face one of 3 Pokémon. The counters of these 3 are as follows:

  • Misdreavus
    • This Ghost-type Pokemon is weak to Dark and Ghost-type moves. Strong Dark-types like Darkrai, Hydreigon, or Houndoom will perform well.
  • Drifloon
    • This Ghost/Flying Pokemon is weak to Dark, Ghost, Electric, Ice and Rock-type moves. Zekrom, Thundurus, or Dakrai are optimal choices.
  • Golett
    • This Ghost/Ground Pokemon is weak to Dark, Grass, Water, and Ice moves. Kartana, Kyogre, or Galarian Darmanitan can deal significant damage.

    • This Ghost/Dark-type Pokemon is weak to Fairy moves. Dark-types like Zoroark or Houndoom are solid choices for versatility.

Wave 3 is the final wave. This wave will feature the previously mentioned tough Ghost-types. The counter to these 3 are as follows:

  • Froslass
    • This Ghost/Ice-type Pokemon is weak to Rock, Steel, Fire, Dark, and Ghost moves. Metagross, Reshiram, or Rampardos are excellent counters.
  • Gengar
    • This Ghost/Poison Pokemon is weak to Dark, Psychic, Ground, and Ghost moves. Landorus, Zoroark, or Darkrai will handle it effectively.
  • Alolan Marowak
    • This Ghost/Fire-type Pokemon is weak to Dark, Water, Rock, and Ground moves. Use Kyogre, Rampardos, or Darkrai for a swift victory.

Key tips for the battle

  • Focus on Dark-types
    • Since Ghost-types are vulnerable to Dark moves and Dark-types resist Ghost-type attacks, this is the safest strategy.
  • Switch Pokemon if neccessary
    • If your team isn’t working out, you can exit the battle, adjust your lineup, and re-enter without penalties.
  • Utilize STAB (Same-Type Attack Bonus)
    • Ensure your Pokémon are using moves that match their own type for increased damage.
