Atlus has announced a Persona 5 spinoff coming for mobile titled Persona 5 The Phantom X.
Atlus took the Persona series fanbase by surprise with the announcement of a new game. It is not Persona 6, nor an enhanced version of Persona 5, but instead a completely new game for mobile.
The game will be published by Perfect World and developed by Black Wings. The game will be available for iOS and Android.
Persona 5: The Phantom X – Gameplay Trailer
The story follows a new protagonist whose parents are abroad. Our protagonist is a student that fights demons by night.
The game introduces a new batch of characters and brings back some familiar faces, like Igor and Joker himself. The trailer shows at least two female characters that are part of the protagonist’s team.
The Phantom X will have a similar gameplay to the larger Persona series. The combat is turn-based, and players have the option to control the entire team. Outside of combat, players get to explore their surroundings, attend school, participate in classes, and improve their social links.
The main difference will be the device where it’s played. This is the first Persona game developed specifically for smartphones. The game is free to play and has in-game purchases.
It is not a gacha game by any means.
At this point, the game doesn’t have an official release date yet. However, the game will be released for early testing on March 29, 2023. This early release will be limited to China.
When rumors about Persona 6 surfaced, fans of the series speculated that Atlus would announce it during the summer. Considering the game is days away from the early release, it is fair to assume that a wide release could happen in 2023.
