New visual effects for Malzahar, Nocturne, Victor in patch 10.18
Riot is looking to update the visual effects on Malzahar, Nocturne, Viktor, and the Ignite summoner spell in patch 10.18.
In a recent post on social media by visual effects lead artist Beardilocks, it was announced that the visual effects team is looking to update a few more of the oldest champions in the game.
The goal is to improve the overall gameplay clarity and VFX of the selected champions while bringing them to the modern League of Legends standards for effects. Some champions have been in the game for many years without receiving any visual updates, but Riot is working to fix that just as the case with previous VFX updates for Ziggs, Thresh, Lux, and others.
In the post, Beardilocks included a short description of the champions’ new looks, including all relevant skins. A short video of the new effects was also made for each champion and included a look at the modified Ignite summoner spell.
Malzahar
Malzahar will receive a much needed visual update on his abilities, and the news has already taken the community by storm. His new abilities will now feel far smoother and will convey the feeling of his true void power. The update on his Call Of The Void (Q) in particular will increase the clarity on the hitbox.
Nocturne
Nocturne is a champion without many flashy effects. This is mostly due to his relatively simple kit, but also the fact that Nocturne was introduced back in 2011. The new update gives Nocturne a more modern feel while improving his readability in-game.
Nocturne will now have some unique effects on his Unspeakable Horror (E) and Paranoia (R), which is something that makes his skins worth a bit more of their cost.
Viktor
Viktor is also getting some love, and the main goal here is for Riot is to clarify his gameplay. Viktor has some spells that can easily be overseen in big teamfights, such as his Death Ray (E).
This will hopefully be solved when the new update hits, as Riot will be making the width on the ability more clear and thus easier for both teammates and enemies to spot.
Ignite
Lastly, Ignite will receive a needed visual update. The Ignite summoner spell has always been in the game, so the visual effects are very much outdated at this point. The spell can be hard to spot in hectic fights, which makes it hard to react to.
The ability will now be a clear flame surrounding the whole champion that is affected, giving every possibile opportunity to notice the spell’s use.
The visual updates have just hit the Public Beta Environment (PBE) and will go live on the servers with patch 10.18.
