League of Legends is getting a historical first, as next patch brings the first Kog’Maw passive buff since the champion’s release 13 years ago.
Kog’Maw is one of the oldest champions in the game, being released in Season 1 on Patch 1.0.0.94. Since then, he has never once received a buff to his passive. Kog’Maw’s passive allows him to run around after dying before exploding for AoE damage. However, it’s never had its numbers boosted until now, several months into League of Legends’ 13th season.

It’s incredibly unusual for a champion to have an ability go untouched for as long as Kog’Maw’s passive has. League of Legends has been around for nearly 15 years, and until this month, Kog’Maw had sat with his passive untouched. The 13.8 PBE patch has brought the first-ever possible changes to the ability ahead of the live server debut of Patch 13.8. The buff will add 15-100 damage to Kog’Maw’s passive scaling with Kog’Maw’s level. More importantly, Kog’Maw will be Ghosted during the duration of his ultimate, allowing him to run through minions and champions.
KOG’MAW NEW PASSIVE EFFECT – League of Legends
These changes aren’t enormous, but Kog’Maw’s other abilities are also receiving a series of buffs alongside these number tweaks. The most important of the changes is clearly his ability to be Ghosted during his passive, as Kog’Maw having to path through minions and champions was a constant problem with his previous passive. While he hasn’t been performing well recently, it’s impressive that his passive was well-balanced in its initial state for so long.
Kog’Maw was one of the candidates for the last community VGU vote, but fell behind Skarner, who won. The void puppy might need an update eventually, but his current iteration has served the game well. As long as the change makes it through PBE, it will launch with Patch 13.08 ahead of MSI 2023.
