A slew of offseason roster swaps has resulted in a very different top 10 League of Legends team rankings.

It’s a new season and teams from all around the world are gearing up to battle in their respective leagues and make a run for the 2021 World Championship. To keep track of the best teams in the world and how they’re projected to perform, here is the first iteration of the LoL team rankings in 2021.

WIN.gg LoL team ranking

The world champions from DWG KIA tops the ranks

After winning the 2020 World Championship and KeSPA Cup 2020 shortly thereafter, DWG KIA is at the top of the team rankings. DWG KIA took the whole League of Legends scene by storm by dominating the 2020 LCK Summer Split, and followed that up by becoming the first Korean team to hoist the Summoner’s Cup since 2017.

For 2021, DWG KIA is looking to continue that dominance with only one roster change. Top laner Jang “Nuguri” Ha-gwon has joined FunPlus Phoenix in the LPL, but has been replaced by another star player in Kim “Khan” Dong-ha. DWG KIA isn’t showing signs of slowing down, so 2021 will likely be another great year for the squad.

Perkz boosts Cloud9 to second place

Having Cloud9 in second place might seem crazy, but new mid laner Luka “Perkz” Perković is giving the team an enormous boost. The Croatian superstar has performed well on G2 Esports for years and will now be the primary carry and leader of C9.

While C9 starts the year off high on the WIN.gg list, it will take a lot from the players to stay there. Perkz won’t be able to take the team to greater heights alone so the rest of C9 will need to return to the form that made it one of the world’s best teams in the 2020 LCS Spring Split.

Cloud9

LCS teams heavily represented in top 10

The LCS is very well represented in the team rankings at the start of 2021 and it’s mainly due to the massive roster changes in the offseason. Once again, top LCS organizations have found big money to buy out strong European players. Besides Perkz joining the league, Team Liquid picked up top laner Barney “Alphari” Morris and upgraded the team further by adding jungler Lucas “Santorin” Larsen.

These roster changes are being rewarded with top spots on the team rankings, but it also means that the LCS teams will have a lot of pressure on them to perform this year.
