Jaws draws Overwatch League Season 3 casting job after exodus

Former Overwatch Contenders Europe caster Jack “Jaws” Wright is joining the Overwatch League broadcast team in the 2020 season.

Jaws will be casting with Robert “Hexagrams” Kirkbride, whose previous partner, Auguste “Semmler” Massonnat, recently left the Overwatch League to return to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. Jaws took to Twitter to reveal the news and express his excitement.

For Jaws, casting the Overwatch League became a goal after watching APEX from his bedroom and then appearing on BlizzCon’s talent team.

Since 2016, Jaws has been casting minor tournaments throughout the European Overwatch scene. This includes the Overwatch World Cup in 2018.

But Jaws also expressed joy at the prospect of working with Hexagrams.

“Hex has been someone I have admired for a long time. I am hyped to be casting alongside such a veteran of the Overwatch scene. This year is going to be incredible and I can’t wait to give it my all. I want to thank some people that have helped me from the very beginning,” he tweeted.

Jaws then gave a shout out to his longtime casting partner Harry “Legday” Pollitt. He admitted that he “wouldn’t be here today” without his support.

Overwatch League Season 3 brings new casting duos

Jaws and Hex make up the third new casting duo for Overwatch League Season 3. The other two duos consist of Brennon “BreN” Hook and Josh “Sideshow” Wilkinson, and Andrew “ZP” Rush and former OWL pro Jake “JAKE” Lyon.

These changes come after the Overwtach League lost a number of popular casters including Christopher “MonteCristo” Mykles, who discussed a clash with new management, and Malik Forte, who talked about Blizzard’s push to cut his pay in Season 3.

When these big names came forward with their stories, many fans began to worry about the state of the league. Blizzard’s plan to cut talent’s salary by 30% despite the increased travel requirements had many wondering if OWL was on financially shaky ground.

Despite the skepticism, Blizzard seems to be moving forward and quickly finding new talent as the third season approaches. The 2020 season will begin on February 8, with games hosted by the Dallas Fuel and New York Excelsior.
