Baki Hanma in Baki

Fans are desperate for more face-punching Baki action, and many are left wondering when Baki season 4 is coming out. The reality is that there is no season four, at least not yet, but there’s still plenty more Baki action coming down the pipe. Here’s what we know.

“Baki” is the second of three anime series following the titular character’s adventures. It launched in 2018 on Netflix. Though the series has a 30-year history at this point, it didn’t gain any traction in western markets until the series launched. This stemmed from a variety of issues surrounding the western releases of both the manga and anime adaptations.

The Baki series on Netflix follows the events of the New Grappler Baki manga, which starts with the “Most Evil Death Row Convicts” arc and ends with the Mohammad Alai Jr. fight. The anime closely follows those story beats, but that’s not the end of the tale. Here’s how to keep getting all the fighting anime action you crave.

Is there a Baki season 4?

There is no Baki season 4, but the story continues in the “Baki Hanma” anime.

The 2021 anime series is based on the manga of the same name that ran from 2005 to 2012. It begins an unspecified time after the defeat of Alai Jr. The long-awaited fight with Yujiro doesn’t actually come immediately after.

Baki Hanma largely follows the character’s preparation for the fight with Yujiro, which includes a few other epic battles. The first season sees the main character tossed into prison in the United States, where he maneuvers his way into a fight with Biscuit Oliva.

Baki Hanma effectively serves as a Baki season 4 and will extend even beyond that. The first season premiered on September 30, 2021 and is available to watch on Netflix. A second season is confirmed to be in production, though no official release date has been confirmed as of this writing. A release in late 2022 or early 2023 is a strong possibility.
