nintendo switch 2 rumor

A lot of rumors have been spreading about the next Nintendo system, with many fans discussing the possibility of a new Switch. Now, Nintendo’s president has shut down this rumor.

PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S came out all the way back in 2020. But Nintendo didn’t follow suit at the time and simply introduced the OLED Switch with a nicer screen during this next-gen push. The Nintendo Switch has now been the latest console since 2017 so it’s no surprise that fans are speculating the possibility of a new system.

However, Nintendo has not made many public statements about a new console. No official announcements have ever come out but the leaks and rumors have continued. This includes some patents made by Nintendo for a dual-screen device, something that’s not currently possible with the Switch.

Unfortunately, Nintendo’s president has shut down some of these rumors.

Nintendo president denies Switch 2 rumors

In a recent report, translated by Mainichi, president Shuntaro Furukawa discussed the ongoing rumors regarding the Nintendo Switch 2.

He said: “Rumors are circulating mainly on the Internet as if they were public information, but they are inaccurate.”

To rub salt in the wound, Furukawa added that the Switch 2 is not being shown at Gamescom.

So what’s with the dual-screen patent? According to Furukawa, he applied with the understanding that it would be made public but it “does not mean” it will be part of a product.

Of course, Furukawa could be bluffing. This wouldn’t be the first time that Nintendo has outright denied games, consoles, and content that ended up being true later. With very little first-party games coming out on the Switch, it really wouldn’t be too crazy to assume that Nintendo is working on a new console with upgraded technology.

For now, however, we have to wait and see.
