Huni reported to sign $2.3 million contract with Dignitas

Dignitas wants to keep top laner Heo “Huni” Seung-hoon for two more years, and according to ESPN the organization offered him a contract for $2.3 million guaranteed.

Dignitas is not afraid to spend money on its roster, and if the contract goes through, Huni will become one of the best paid players in the LCS and possibly the world. Huni was transferred from Echo Fox to Clutch Gaming in 2019, a brand that was acquired by Dignitas halfway the 2019 Summer Split.

Dignitas is ready to spend money on roster, Huni

The team recently took part in the World Championship where they face teams like SK Telecom T1, Fnatic, and Royal Never Give Up. As Clutch Gaming, the roster finished the year on a positive note in spite of their struggles at Worlds and is now getting ready for 2020.

Huni is the first confirmed player returning to Dignitas. Jungler Nam “Lira” Tae-yoo won’t be back with the team next year, and the player announced through Twitter that he’s looking for new opportunities. Some rumors indicate that Dignitas has received offers for support Philippe “Vulcan” Laflamme, who is under contract through 2020. Mid laner Tanner “Damonte” Damonte and bottom laner Sun “Cody Sun” Li-Yu are still under contract with the organization.

Cody Sun is likely to stay and complete his contract. Despite not being the most popular bottom laner in the region, Cody Sun has proven to be a reliable player that can carry a team to victory. Damonte is a young North American native with great potential. The mid laner is rising in popularity and is considered one of the best talents developed domestically.

One rumor has Huni actually moving to the mid lane after signing on with Dignitas. How this would impact Damonte’s position with the team remains unclear. It might create new roster composition difficulties for Dignitas, given that Damonte is a native player and Huni is an import. It’s also unclear if Damonte would be allowed to look elsewhere for playing time or if the mid laner would be forced into a substitute role immediately after qualifying for Worlds.

The community criticized the team’s decision to spend $2.3 million on Huni alone, with some called it a “dumb decision” and a “waste of money”. Huni might be a good import for Dignitas, but his performance sometimes left a lot to be desired during 2019.

All roster changes won’t be confirmed until November 18 when free agency officially opens.
