How to play Rocket League cross-platform
How to play Rocket League cross-platform
Don’t let Rocket League’s child-like graphics trick you into thinking that it’s easy to play. Rocket League cross-platform helps you team up with your friends and win games with the right strategies and communication.
Psyonix’s high-powered hybrid of an arcade-style soccer game is one of the trending
esports in 2022. It isn’t only a cut-throat esports among professionals but also epic entertainment to kill time. While competitive players prefer their computers, the game has plenty of PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch players as well.
Fortunately, the developer has added a crossplay option, enabling players to party up with some of the best players regardless of their platform. This is one of the many features that make the Rocket League incredibly challenging and entertaining.
How to enable crossplay in Rocket League
It’s pretty simple to enable crossplay and then queue with friends playing from the various platform. First, launch Rocket League and then select settings from the main menu. Check the cross-platform play box in the gameplay tab to play with your cross-platform friends.
Enabling crossplay is simple, but lobbying with players from other platforms may take some work. Once your crossplay is on, make sure you’ve added your friends. Here’s how to do it:
- Click on the square icon in the bottom-right corner to open a friend list if you’re on PC. The console player should press the right trigger button for the same purpose.
- Select “add Epic friend” at the bottom of the friends list and enter your friend’s Epic Games ID.
- Click on “Play” and select custom games > private match.
- Select join private match if you want to join a match of another friend.
If you’re creating your own game from “create,” you can tweak the settings to let friends join themselves. Set it to the option that allows anyone with a secret name and password to enter. You should now be able to hop into a game with your cross-platform friends. This simple process works for all Rocket League platforms.
While Psyonix does allow crossplay, there are some limitations worth noting. Any items exclusive to one system won’t appear the same to other players. If you’ve bought a specific car skin on Xbox, it may not be visible to your friend on PC. The same goes for the profile picture as well.
There’s also a limitation on voice chat. Cross-platform players can only use the quick chat feature to communicate with their teammates. General voice chat is disabled for crossplay.
