How to get the Jellyfish Shield in Elden Ring and why it’s good
The Jellyfish Shield is one of the best shields in Elden Ring and boasts a unique and powerful ability. Here’s how to get it.
Players can get the Jellyfish Shield quite early in the game in the Liurnia of the Lakes region. Though this is technically meant to come after defeating Godrick the Grafted in Stormveil Castle, players can reach Liurnia right at the start of the game. A series of cliffs form a path around the eastern walls of Stormveil Castle, letting players find their way to Liurnia almost immediately.
Elden Ring players still face a decent journey from there if they want to immediately get the Jellyfish Shield. It might just be worth it, though.
Jellyfish Shield location in Elden Ring
The Jellyfish Shield is located on the western edge of Liurnia of the Lakes, west of the Four Belfries area.
The shield is found in a relatively nondescript location but isn’t difficult to spot. After reaching the Foot of the Four Belfries Site of Grace, head north along the road. Not long after, you’ll be able to find a group of red Spirit Jellyfishes surrounding a broken cart and a corpse. Clear out the Spirit Jellyfishes and pick up the shield from the corpse.
The Jellyfish Shield is exactly what it sounds like. The greatshield is a Spirit Jellyfish with its legs removed, allowing it to be used as a weapon. The Jellyfish Shield is one of several shield options in Elden Ring that offer 100% physical damage reduction, but with the big asterisk that it offers 0% damage reduction against piercing attacks.
The Jellyfish Shield remains incredibly powerful despite this thanks to its Contagious Fury ability. By hitting L2 with the shield equipped, the player gets a 20% boost in damage for 30 seconds. Topping all this off is the fact that it has one of the lowest weights of any greatshield, at just 8.0.
The shield does have a 20 strength prerequisite but that’s a relatively humble ask for how powerful it is. The Jellyfish Shield would be useful simply as a shield against certain bosses even without its ability, but almost all Elden Ring players ought to give it a hard look. Though it won’t net the player any achievements, it’s worth going out of the way for.
