Want to tame animals in Minecraft? Luckily, taming animals in Minecraft is easy if you know what you’re doing.

Animals are an important source of food, materials, and company in Minecraft. A farm is an essential part of any homestead. In addition to materials, tamed mobs like wolves and horses provide a form of protection and transportation.

The process of taming Minecraft animals can get complex, but some knowledge and the right materials go a long way. Here’s how to tame every animal in Minecraft.

How to tame a cat in Minecraft

Cats in Minecraft spawn near villages or swamp huts. To tame a cat, give it a piece of raw cod or salmon. This will cause the cat to emit hearts and no longer run away from the player. The cat will follow the player around while occasionally making noises, but they don’t do much otherwise.

Cats aren’t as useful as wolves, but they do have an important upside. Creepers and phantoms are afraid of cats. They will not approach a cat under any circumstances unless forced to by the surrounding geography. Just remember that creepers are afraid of the cat, not the player who tamed it. They can still get close if your cat wanders too far away.

How to tame a horse in Minecraft

Taming a horse is a more complex process than some of the other Minecraft animals on this list. To tame one, put a saddle on one and repeatedly mount it until it stops bucking you off. This can take a long time, but all horses will eventually become tamed with this method. You can also feed it carrots to speed up the process. It is officially tamed when hearts come out of its face.

Horses are among the most useful tameable animals in the Minecraft world. By equipping one with a saddle, a horse becomes a very efficient form of transportation. This is a great way to roam the world without consuming stamina from sprinting.

How to tame a donkey in Minecraft

Taming a Minecraft donkey works the exact same way as a horse. Repeatedly ride it until it eventually decides to let you stay on. Feeding it vegetables can make the process a little easier.

Donkeys are effectively the same as horses, but are different in certain ways. They can equip chests for mobile storage and are affected by speed potions. They also naturally regenerate health, which is a nice perk to have.

How to tame a mule in Minecraft

Just like its genetic parents, mules in Minecraft can be tamed by repeatedly attempting to ride them. Mules are essentially the same as donkeys except they cannot be bred. Just like in real life, Minecraft mules are sterile at birth. The only way to make a mule is to breed a horse with a donkey.

How to tame a llama in Minecraft

Minecraft llamas are tamed the same way as horses. Attempting to ride them will select a random value between zero and 100. Each attempt raises the value by five. When the meter hits 100, the llama will display heart icons and officially be tamed. The trader llama can be tamed in the same way.

Llamas are more decorative than useful. They can’t be ridden like horses, but they can hold storage like donkeys and mules. Leads are the best tool for transporting llamas around. Llamas can also defend themselves and their owners by spitting, but it doesn’t do much damage. They can be decorated with wool, meaning they are more customizable than other Minecraft farm animals.

How to tame a wolf in Minecraft

Players can tame Minecraft wolves by feeding them bones. Each bone has a 33% chance of taming the wolf, but there is no guarantee that a certain amount will tame them. A wild wolf can theoretically eat hundreds of bones without being tamed.

Wolves are probably the most useful tameable animal in Minecraft. They can attack unfriendly mobs and bark to alert the player of their presence. Minecraft wolves are essentially the same as dogs, right down to wearing collars and name tags. The color of their collar can change by applying wool dye.

How to tame a parrot in Minecraft

Parrots are tamed similarly to wolves in Minecraft. They eat seeds from various plants, including pumpkin, wheat, melon, and more. Each one has a one-in-three chance to tame the parrot.

Parrots are essentially just decorations in Minecraft. They can sit on players’ shoulders or hang out in their house. Parrots will also imitate nearby mobs, which can give the player a scare or warn them of certain dangers. A parrot making a creeper hiss means that there is one nearby.

How to tame a pig in Minecraft

Unlike the other animals on this list, it is impossible to tame a pig in Minecraft by giving it items. In fact, there is no real way to tame pigs at all. The best you can do is close it off in a pen with some other pigs.

While you can’t tame a pig directly, you can still take advantage of them in some ways. You can put a saddle on a pig and ride it, though you’ll probably want a carrot on a stick to lead them with.
