When is Sonic Frontiers coming out?

The new Sonic game was teased in the summer of 2021 and then officially announced in December. The trailer was unlike anything Sonic fans had seen before, with many comparing the visuals and gameplay to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Sonic Frontiers was originally set to launch last year on Sonic’s 30th birthday. Now developers are releasing it in 2022 along with many other Sega game remakes. Developers have not shared an exact date and time yet, however.

What platforms is Sonic Frontiers on?

This unique new Sonic game will be available on every modern system, including Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Microsoft Windows PCs.

Is Sonic Frontiers open world?

When the game was officially announced in December 2021, developers described it as a “huge leap” for the classic franchise, bringing “an evolved gameplay experience” that action-adventure players will enjoy.

Sonic Frontiers is currently described as the first Sonic game to feature open-world gameplay. It’s not confirmed if the 3D platformer will be completely open world or if it will feature open-world elements, similar to Mario Odyssey and Kirby and the Forgotten Land. The team has also referred to Sonic Frontiers as an “open-zone experience.”

What is the story behind Sonic Frontiers?

In a since-deleted description from Polygon, the premise of Sonic Frontiers is said to revolve around Sonic and his ongoing issues with Dr. Eggman. This time, Dr. Eggman discovers an ancient technology on the Starfall Islands and promptly installs his own AI program, SAGE, to take it over. Sonic must then “race against time” to save his friends and discover the mystery behind the technology.
