From the original series to Boruto, Naruto is seen at different ages through around 20 years during the franchise’s events. Because of that, it’s worth keeping track of the age of Naruto and other characters across the series’ three parts.
Naruto starts off the series as a goofy child, but later in Boruto, Naruto is a husband and a father of two children. Though there isn’t necessarily much character development throughout the series, there are still obvious markers when it comes to time passing.

How old is Naruto?
Naruto starts the original series at just 12 years old.
The series’ opening makes it clear how old Naruto is. The anime starts with a somber “12 years ago” while showing Kurama’s attack on the Konoha Village, which concludes when the demon is sealed inside the body of a newborn Naruto. This firmly establishes that Naruto is 12 years old when he advances out of Iruka’s class and is assigned to Kakashi’s team.
The casts of the shows certainly don’t wind up living the lives of average 12-year-olds. There may be more to say about the series’ depiction of what are effectively child soldiers, but it’s relatively standard fare for anime.
How old is Naruto in Naruto Shippuden?
It is estimated that Naruto is around 16 years old at the start of the Shippuden anime.

It’s essentially left open to interpretation how old Naruto is at any point beyond the very beginning of the series. There are few defined indications of time progressing and it’s unclear whether the totality of the original series takes place over the span of several months or a few years. One thing that is clear regarding Shippuden is that it begins two and a half years following the conclusion of the original series.
Once again, it’s unclear how long Shippuden actually is. In the anime, there is a scene that shows Iruka celebrating Naruto’s birthday, but it’s not specified how old he is at that point.
How old is Naruto in Boruto?
Naruto is in his early or mid-30s at the start of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations.

It’s not explicitly stated how old Naruto is during the events of Boruto. There is enough to piece together an approximate age, though.
The Last: Naruto the Movie
is the
final movie before the pivot to Boruto, and it takes place two years after the conclusion of Naruto Shippuden and sees Naruto propose to his eventual wife, Hinata Hyuga.
At the start of Boruto, Naruto’s oldest child is 12 years old. This means that there’s a minimum of 14 years between the end of Shippuden and the start of Boruto. Naruto is at least 15 years old by the start of Shippuden and the events of the series likely play out over the course of at least one year. This means that the titular character is at least 30 years old by the start of Boruto, and could be several years older than that.
