Payday 3

Payday 3 is coming and information has slowly come out about the anticipated shooter, revealing some interesting differences between the upcoming title and the previous game in the series.

Payday 3 is an upcoming co-op FPS by Starbreeze Studios and published by Plaion. It will be the successor to Payday 2. Despite having a 2023 release date, not much was said about Payday 3 when it was initially announced. So here is everything we know about the upcoming action title.

Payday 3 release date

So far, there is no specific release date for Payday 3.

The game was first announced in 2020 on Twitter. A developer admitted that Payday 3 was in the design phase in August of 2020.

Payday 3 is now available on Steam to add to a wish list, but no specifics have been revealed beyond that it’s coming in 2023. A short teaser was released in January 2023 confirming that this is the year. Unfortunately, the trailer was very cryptic and didn’t offer a lot of new information about the game.

When it finally does come out, it will be available on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. The gaming community is speculating that the game will be on next-gen consoles — PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S — especially if it’s coming out later in 2023.

Payday 3 gameplay

Payday 3 is still a pretty big mystery despite the fact that it’s coming this year. Luckily, there are some things that players can expect.

Director Erik Wonnevi has already revealed that the game will be set in New York City. Wonnevi described the city as “living” and “enormous.”

The game will also be set a few years after Payday 2. The characters from the previous game have since retired and have somewhat become influencers. Despite the fact that they were able to hide their previous exploits, Wonnevi said that the original gang would be quickly thrown back into the heist game.

Payday 3 gameplay changes

There will be some big changes as the gang jumps back into action, however. It’s been 10 years since Payday 2, so there are some updates already in store.

“The world of Payday has transitioned into the digital age,” Wonnevi said, “with software giants, cryptocurrencies, mass surveillance, and the Dark Web all playing a role in the gang’s new gadgets, challenges, and opportunities.”

In other words, players should expect entirely new mechanics and fresh gameplay. But what those exact changes are is still a mystery.
