G2 Esports crush Misfits in LEC return, give fans taste of 9.13 meta
G2 Esports didn’t just beat Misfits Gaming, they destroyed them.
G2 came back from a well-deserved break stronger than ever. The LEC Spring champions started week four with a dominant victory over Misfits.
Jungler Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski on Sylas started the game with a cheeky invade in the top side of the jungle. Misfits chased him out and kept their camps intact for the moment.
Top laner Paul “sOAZ” Boyer and mid laner Adam “LIDER” Ilyasov switched positions trying to get better matchup but that audible didn’t pay off. Rasmus “Caps” Winther on Renekton took over immediately. He started with a solo kill in the mid lane that put him ahead early and kept building that lead to the point where LIDER couldn’t keep up.
Caps then rotated to the top lane to assist teammate Martin “Wunder” Hansen, with the pair taking over the solo lanes and terrorizing Misfits players.
In the bottom lane, Misfits was not doing any better as G2 took over the map and collected kills. Misfits ran out of options and let G2 control the game.
G2 turned its attention to the baron. In a miraculous play, jungler Nubar “Maxlore” Sarafian jumped in and stole it from Jankos. The baron bought Misfits some time to regroup and weigh their options but G2 was relentless.
Every time Misfits hesitated to make a play, G2 went all in. At 25 minutes, G2 went for the kill and closed the game.
In addition to being a showcase performance from G2 Esports, the match was the first taste of the 9.13 meta. New champion Qiyana and the reworked Mordekaiser are two must-bans on the red side. Lux, Yuumi, and Tahm Kench are still top-tier supports.
The solo lanes have some new options as well. While Caps dominated the mid lane with Renekton, Origen top laner Barney “Alphari” Morris flexed with Vayne in the top lane, and Vladimir is back as another flex option.
