Fortnite Season X angers fans by adding mechs, removing challenges

Fortnite Season X has launched to the delight of battle royale fans everywhere. The new season brings a wealth of changes following the successful conclusion of the Fortnite World Cup.

The most interesting addition is the B.R.U.T.E., a mech that can wreak havoc all over the stormy island, but requires two players to pilot. The B.R.U.T.E. is already drawing the ire of fans, with many complaining that it is wildly overpowered. Anyone that wants a taste of Fortnite’s Gundam experience ought to sign on soon before it gets nerfed or removed entirely.

All the other usual trimmings of a new Fortnite season are accounted for, including map changes stemming from the Rift Zones that showed up after the Zero Point Explosion.

Battle Royale’s arsenal is also getting a major shakeup. A number of important weapons, items, and vehicles are being vaulted including the Baller, Quad Crasher, Flint Knock Pistol, Shadow Bomb, Semi-Auto Sniper, Tactical Assault Rifle, Mounted Turret, Air Strike, and Glider Redeploy.

Fortnite fans hate missions

On a less popular note, Fortnite is also changing the structure for challenges. Instead of receiving challenges on a daily basis, players now receive weekly missions that are only available for a limited time. These missions must be completed within the allotted time, and cannot be stockpiled in anticipation of knocking out several in a single session.

The change is designed to keep the Fortnite faithful engaged and playing on a daily basis, but fans are not thrilled about the change. A vocal contingent have stated that the new format pressures them to hop online and knock challenges out when Epic wants, not when it’s most convenient for them.

Gamers have long complained about these sorts of engagement tactics as it forces them to make tough decisions about how they spend their time. It historically hasn’t been a big issue, but the grind to Battle Pass completion could end up being more stressful as a result.

Make sure to read the full patch notes on the official Fortnite website.
