Evil Geniuses has announced the next element of its master plan to fix the LCS, as Heo “Irean” Yeong-cheol has joined the organization as the new head coach.
Evil Geniuses is making all the right moves to ensure a successful debut in the LCS in 2020. Irean will be in charge of the roster that so far consists of top laner Colin “Kumo” Zhao, jungler Dennis “Svenskeren” Johnsen, and bottom lane duo Bae “Bang” Jun-sik and Tristan “Zeyzal” Stidam. Evil Geniuses is yet to find a mid laner to complete the team.
“We can’t wait to see what he can help us accomplish with his expertise and a team already poised for success,” Evil Geniuses wrote on Twitter
Irean replied expressing his gratitude and added, “let’s go World Championship.” From the get-go, Evil Geniuses and its new coach are aiming for the biggest prize in League of Legends.
Irean joins Evil Geniuses after a strong year with Counter Logic Gaming where he acted as an assistant coach. The reasons for Irean’s departure from CLG remain unclear, and the coach didn’t share many details when he announced his free agency back in November.
The rumors that Irean would leave CLG started by the end of the World Championship. According to some sources, Irean was looking to go back to Korea to secure a position there. Irean ultimately decided to stay in North America with Evil Geniuses and CLG signed Kim “SSONG” Sang-soo as his replacement.
Evil Geniuses is getting all the tools to make its team successful, starting with giving Bang the support he needs. It’s largely assumed that Korean imports work better when they have a Korean coaching staff to work with. Svenskeren, Zeyzal, and Kumo had a Korean coaching staff in Cloud9, so Irean is a good fit for them as well on the new roster.
Evil Geniuses is yet to reveal its Academy team and its starting LCS mid laner.
